[Games] Shocking announcement regarding FF7 coming?

So by now I’m sure the people who follow gaming know that on Monday, SquareEnix president Yoichi Wada announced at the Microsoft conference at E3 that Final Fantasy XIII will be coming out on the Xbox360 as well (only in US and EU territories. Japan 360 users get squat lol). Well in the days following the announcement, various sites have been able to sit down with some more of SquareEnix’s employees and have themselves a little interview. An interview over at 1UP.com got confirmation of an interesting tidbit…

A friend of mine clued me in on the interview here with FFXIII’s co-producers Yoshinori Kitase and Shinji Hashimoto. Some interesting tidbits from that interview:

1UP: Last week, Final Fantasy Versus XIII director Tetsuya Nomura said that he’s hard at work adding new scenes to the FFVII: Advent Children Complete Blu-ray release. Can you give us any update on that project?

SH: You can look forward to the upcoming invite-only fan event DKS3713 [taking place in Tokyo on August 2 and 3], where we’ll have a major announcement that will shock the fans in attendance.”

1UP: FFVII’s characters are so beloved that they’ll probably never go away, right? Just like Mickey Mouse….

SH: [Laughs] That’s true, because today’s 15-year-old kids were only 5 when the game released. Even though they weren’t interested in it then, now they’re getting into it. We’re seeing a new cycle of fans emerging….

This falls in line with something that SquareEnix character designer and director Tetsuya Nomura mentioned to a japanese magazine i guess about a week before E3. The japanese to french to english translated article apparently says that there will be a big announcement alongside the release date announcement of FF7 Advent Children on bluray at the fan event DKS3713.

Nothing is specifically mentioned about FF7 in either of these two articles, so it may not even be about FF7, but a shocking announcement? Alongside a FF7 related project? At an invite only event for SquareEnix fans? Even if it’s too good to be true, the silly fanboy in me wants to believe lol. Whatever the case, the event is just a little over two weeks away (August 2-3), so now we play the waiting game…

New scenes? Aeris? They are so mean, they know I can’t prohibit myself from purchasing a collectors item.

hehe well we’ll find out what’s been changed next week if somebody out there gets to report on the invite only fan event. I’ve been holding off getting the dvd version just to wait for a bluray version. Didn’t know it’d take this long though -_-

I’m glad , I just bought xbox360 because Sony’s RPG games mostly come in Japanese only. If we are lucky the English version comes out in 6 months time.
Will Final Fantasy XIII be released the same time for all languages ?

hmm as far as I know, FFXIII will be released first in Japan for the PS3 only. It’ll then head for the localization process, and at that time they’ll also start on the 360 version. And from there, when it’s all done I think it will be released on all systems internationally on the same date or close to each other. A thing to note is that Japan will not be getting a 360 version, so only EU and US regions will be getting it.
