Hiiiiiiiiiiiii! 『Cherry Girls』 shopgirl, Rio here. Summer break is over isn’t it… *sniff*

Hey everybody! How was your summer!? (or so I say, but it’ll be hot all through September) Did you go to the Comiket, or the beach, or the Wonder Festival?
You know, I…I was rejected by my teacher… *sniff*…

“——It’s still early for you to give up.
He may be a teacher, but he’s still human… If you be a little more aggressive bit by bit, by the time you graduate, it wouldn’t be impossible to make him have a change of heart.

R, really!? Tomo-nii!?

“Especially since it seems this year is your teacher’s first year as an educator. To be in charge of a class for the first time is to be endowed with a unique intensity. That’s what you’ll take advantage of.”

Kyaa~! Giving a love letter♥ on the day of the graduation ceremony would really grab their attention! Alright, I’ll have to practice now…

“——Then here, use this green pen.”

Huhwha? How come?

“Didn’t you know that using green ink has various jinxes? You’ve heard the rumors from the girls in your class, haven’t you?”

Ahh–, now that you mention it I have. I have heard of it! If you write a love letter with it, or write the name of the one you love over and over again, they’ll fall for you~ or something like that right!?

“That’s right.
It’s a method that lacks any scientific basis, but it’s not a bad idea to appeal to him with how serious you are.”

Thanks Tomo-nii♪
By the way…ehehehe~♥
Looks like there’s more to you than meets the eye~~♥♥

“…What do you mean?”

Because Becaaaaaause…the ink in this green pen looks like it’s been used. Frankly, this is enough evidence to prove that you’ve used this pen as a good luck charm!!

“Hmph——I don’t have any recollection of that…
However, the owner of that pen may have some sort of idea.”

Tomo you bastard, what the hell are you doing!?”

“——Woops. Looks like he’s figured it out.”

Eh!? This is Yuki-nii’s!?
So then, it wasn’t for a girl’s charm…it was a boy’s and it’s Yuki-nii☆

“I, Idiot, that’s not it!!
I bought it thinking you would use it and was only testing it out!!”

“I see…
Then can I take the coverslip off this eraser? The name of the one you like wouldn’t be written here right?”

You bastard, how dare you even take that!!”

Ah, I’ve heard of that too!
If you write the name of the person you love on an eraser and use it all up without anybody finding out, then they’ll fall for you~, right♥

“Hohohoho…you sure you wanna do that, Tomo?
I found out all about your precious secret last week at the Summer Comiket, you know…?”

“Ahh, you mean that huh——.
I don’t really care if you spread that around.”

“Eh??? I…is that right?”

“Yea. If that’s the case, then I’ll just tell Nao-nii too——
You pointed out that you were completely taken in by the scanty outfit that Nao-nii wore for that short bit. You even took a cell phone pic.”

“Ooooh…!! You’re – such – a – damn…!!”

Geez! Both of you stop fighting!!

Yuki-nii…and Tomo-nii…
Thanks for helping me out.
Thank you so so much.

“It…was nothing.”

So so, I’m gonna do my best, so the both of you stop fighting, ok?♥

“A, alright…”

Ok! So n–o more fighting!
I’m gonna go practice writing that love letter♥♥

((Oh well…))

The next update (Comic & Column 5-1) will be Friday, Sept 12.
Look forward to it♥

    Thanks for the translation.

Could just be me..but I found the comic kinda confusing.
Is it like some Japanese joke or something?

  3. September 4, 2008 at 5:46 pm

Yea I was having trouble understanding it too lol. I think basically what’s going on is that Tomo is disappointed that his dress didn’t completely make Rio’s Sensei succumb to him. He says that Rio has nothing but his love to give, because without the dress or sex appeal, he can only appeal to his Sensei through his love, and that’s what he responded to in the previous story (though he was kind of taken aback by the dress).

He goes on to say “That’s tough…” and Rio is left there wondering if he was being praised or criticized. Then Tomo says, “That’s a worthy opponent/foe/obstacle,” meaning I think that Rio’s non sex appeal is a formidable obstacle to try to get past.

So then “With these hands of mine, I’ll definitely make him fall.” The Japanese got cut off there, but I wasn’t sure if I just said “Fa…” or “Fal…” would have gotten the point across (I wanted to make his dialogue get cut off by the sudden smack by Yuki, like it was in the original). I added “Compl…” to try to make it complete. I made him out to say “I’ll make him fall completely (in love with Rio, after seeing the ‘new’ dress).”

And then Yuki comes in and smacks him on the head, saying what’ll he do if *he* falls (into the depths of his obsession).

Also, in the very first panel with Rio. The background text reads:
” リオをた・べ・て♥ ” (Rio wo tabete) — which means, “Eat Rio” or “Eat me” or “Have me” or “Have some of me”

In between “Rio” and “wo” on the right side there is a small text bubble that had (のケーキ) in it, which by itself I guess would mean (cake), but it’s full context is to connect with “Rio” and form a possessive noun, to “Rio’s”. The joke here is it’s double meaning, which is what I’ve translated in the small space below that panel. “Eat Rio(‘s cake)” or “Have some of Rio(‘s cake)”. I couldn’t use “me,” which would have sounded better, since english speakers don’t usually refer to themselves in the third person, so I couldn’t say “Eat me(my cake)” or else it wouldn’t have had the same impact in my opinion.

That was another one of the problems that made me wait so long to translate this. I mulled over how I should translate and how I could redo the background to make it english, but in the end I just said screw it and translated it in the small space below lol. The sparklies in the background would have been hard for me anyway _|¯|O

    Hope that helps

Yeah, that did help a lot.
I wasn’t properly understanding what Yuki was talking about in the 1st place, but now it makes more sense with Tomo’s evil looks.

Also, the 1st Rio panel also makes sense now.
    Explains all those sparkles too.

    Thanks again.

    no problem! ^^
Should have written that up in the first place to explain at least the first panel, since that was the part i was contemplating on the longest.

Thank you very muchhhh for the explanation! I can get the meaning of the comic now.

I would like to say(although I’m not good at English very much…), from that long explanation to make the comic easy to be understood by us(The readers) can show your intention of translating ‘Cherry Girls’ very well. Thank you again for your spirit as a translator.

I liked this. I’d be willing to bet that Nao’s name is in Yuki’s eraser.

I actually understood the comic without the explanation! Maybe you need a girl’s fair heart after all.

Well i think what you need is tippical japanese humor!!

    And… well i want to be a crossdresser….
but that doesn’t mean you need to have a girl’s fair heart!!

Altough i am 60% in touch with my femenine side…. but not all the time….

    Anyway i really liked Tomo’s determination!! X3

It was really funny to see him fired up. wich usualy does not apply to his caracter type
or also something comun in a cool lonely wolf like him!!

    Oh thak you again!!
